Irish cooking class with a local celebrity chef in Ballina

Marjorie is a charming and outgoing Irish woman who loves meeting people and sharing her passion for food. Join your host Marjorie at her small but charming kitchen to learn to cook a traditional Irish meal from recipes out of her own cookbooks, many of which have passed down through generations in her family. Marjorie loves to bake so most of your meal will be straight out of the oven. Enjoy a hands-on Irish cooking class that will last about an hour and a half. Roll up your sleeves and learn to make 2-3 traditional dishes from scratch with fresh ingredients, some that may have even been procured from your Marjorie’s garden. Your baking class will include learning to bake homemade scones, Irish soda bread or a traditional fish pie. Learn from an expert about the tips and techniques involved in home style Irish cooking before you sit down at the table to share the meal you helped prepare with Marjorie.

Westport House and Gardens Admission Ticket

With over 30 rooms on show, visitors can immerse themselves in life as far back as the 16th century when Grace O’Malley the Pirate Queen of Connacht ruled the land and seas around the estate. Built upon the foundations of one of her many castles which can still be toured in the dungeons today, the original Westport House was built in 1650 by Colonel John Browne and his wife Maud Burke, Grace O’Malley’s great-great-granddaughter.

Since then it has undergone a number of developments under the direction of the celebrated architects Richard Cassels (of Carton and Leinster House architectural fame), James Wyatt and Thomas Ivory, progressing from a smaller, one room deep residence with a central open court yard to the stately square house complete with beautiful balustraded terraces that we recognise today.

Patrick's Causeway Bike Tour from Westport

Patrick’s Causeway is an ancient pilgrimage road. It is known as the 'Tochar Phadraig' in Gaelic, and the walking trail consists of 113 stiles as part of a 18-mi (30-km) route. The bicycle route follows quiet roads to the southern side of Ireland's holy mountain, Croagh Patrick, on which Saint Patrick is said to have spent forty days and nights during his time in Ireland.

As part of the tour, you will visit several unusual sites, including the Neolithic Rock of Boheh,'Soap the Rope' bridge and the magical Brackloon Wood. The return journey to Westport is completed along the Wild Atlantic Way. This is a unique way to see one of the world’s most beautiful areas using quiet trails that will reveal Irish heritage, geography, and the deep history that sweeps across Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay. This is a relaxing bicycle tour that takes a few hours to complete with stops.
